The Paralysis of Analysis in Online Marketing
When it comes to online marketing, there is so much information available, it’s easy to fall into the trap of ‘reading it all’. You can’t expect to achieve any results if you never have the time to put it into practice – this I know from experience. Sometimes you can read so much different and even conflicting info that by the end of it all you’ll convince yourself it’s all too much and you are doomed to fail. Knowledge is good – but try to learn in moderation, whilst experimenting with the techniques you’ve been concentrating on so far. You can then analyse the results more effectively. Consider the vast amount of time it can take to download all of the free PDFs, watch all of the tutorials and listen to all of the podcasts etc This great volume of time will hinder your objective of running your business. Don’t spend 4 hours reading about social bookmarking and joining every available site when you could have got a whole new line of products listed in your shop! Your ultimate goal is to have a successful business and to utilise some marketing techniques to drive further business to your website. There is very little point in all of this traffic arriving at your site if you spend more time on marketing than you do on your content. Of course, this traffic will only arrive if you have the time to implement the marketing techniques – which you won’t as you are still reading about them all.... So, concentrate on good content and balance this with some marketing. You don’t need to implement every technique that you read about to make your business a success. Chat to other people and find out what has worked for them and limit your valuable time each day, perhaps putting 1 – 2 hours aside for research purposes, whilst using the rest to concentrate on your service/products.
